Held in Mumbai, the GS1 General Assembly 2025 marked a historic first for India, hosted by GS1 India with the theme “Building Bridges for a Better Tomorrow.” The four-day event brought together over 150 global leaders, regulators, and innovators, united by a shared vision of creating a future driven by trusted data, AI integration, and transparent digital ecosystems.
Keynote speakers, including GS1 Management Board Chairman Mark Batenic and GS1 President Renaud De Barbuat, emphasized the urgent need for real-time, high-quality data in an AI-powered global economy. As GS1 celebrates 50+ years of the barcode, the focus is now on Vision 2030—a future empowered by seamless data sharing, cross-sector collaboration, and robust identification standards.
GS1 India CEO S. Swaminathan highlighted how the organisation has partnered with industries like retail and healthcare to build centralized registries and strengthen India’s growing digital infrastructure. With modern retailing now making up 13–14% of the Indian market, data integrity has become vital.
India’s rapid growth trajectory was spotlighted by Vimal Anand (President, GS1 India & Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry), who underscored the country’s digital leadership and transformation across sectors.
Industry voices from Reliance Retail, Fractal Analytics, Network Science, Stellaro Brands, and Twin Health further echoed the importance of interoperable systems, responsible AI, and scalable innovations to ensure trust, efficiency, and sustainability.
As the Assembly concludes, GS1’s global community reaffirms its commitment to build future-ready, transparent, and resilient supply chains that align with GS1 Vision 2030.
