Kaimirra Opens New Jewellery Boutique and Kiosk in Kuala Lumpur
The Malaysian jewellery brand brings its ammolite, meteorite and gemstone collections to two new retail destinations.
Kaimirra, a Malaysian jewellery brand specialising in ammolite and meteorite, has opened a boutique at Pavilion Damansara Heights and a kiosk at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The new locations give customers more opportunities to explore its jewellery collections and view these rare natural materials before making a purchase.
The Pavilion Damansara Heights boutique celebrated its grand opening on 9 October 2026. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a traditional lion dance. The new kiosk brings the brand to Bukit Bintang, one of Kuala Lumpur’s main shopping districts.
Kaimirra’s Journey Since 2021
Nelson Foo and Joshua Tan founded Kaimirra in 2021. Their shared interest in unusual natural materials inspired the brand. They were drawn to ammolite’s vivid colours and meteorite’s origins in space.
Their aim was to introduce these rare materials to a wider audience through contemporary jewellery. Kaimirra believes that natural materials with unique stories deserve to be worn and appreciated, rather than kept only in private collections or display cabinets.
“Ammolite and meteorite are older than anything else you will ever wear, and no two stones are alike,” said Nelson Foo, co-founder of Kaimirra. “We wanted people to see them properly, hold them and choose a piece that feels like theirs.”
“Watching ammolite shift colour under the lights is what wins people over,” said Joshua Tan, co-founder. “That is why we wanted to give it a proper space.”
Ammolite: A Gemstone Formed 66 Million Years Ago
Ammolite is a rare organic gemstone formed from the colourful, iridescent shells of fossilised ammonites. These marine creatures became extinct during the mass extinction that ended the Cretaceous Period around 66 million years ago, alongside the non-avian dinosaurs.
Today, gem-quality ammolite is commercially mined in southwestern Alberta, Canada. Kaimirra sources its stones directly from miners in the region.
The gemstone’s colours come from microscopic layers within the shell. These layers interact with light, creating colours that change with movement and viewing angle. Each stone has its own patterns and colour combinations. As a result, even pieces made in the same design have individual characteristics.
Meteorite Jewellery Connects Wearers with Space
Meteorites are fragments of rock or metal from space that survive their journey through Earth’s atmosphere. Most come from asteroids, while others originate from the Moon or Mars. Their unusual textures and origins make them distinctive materials for jewellery.
Kaimirra offers several types of meteorite, including Muonionalusta from Sweden, Aletai from China, Sericho pallasite from Kenya and lunar meteorite.
Each material has its own features. Muonionalusta displays fine, interlocking Widmanstätten patterns, which are crystal structures revealed when the metal is etched. Aletai features broader patterns. Sericho pallasite contains olivine crystals within an iron-nickel matrix, while lunar meteorite reflects the rocky texture of material from the Moon.
These materials appeal to customers interested in astronomy, natural patterns and distinctive jewellery. Each piece in Kaimirra’s meteorite collection comes with a certificate stating its material type and origin.
Exploring Kaimirra’s Collections In Store
The Pavilion Damansara Heights boutique features deep navy interiors, museum-style displays and a mini gallery of meteorites and ammonite fossils. Visitors can examine the materials closely and observe how ammolite changes colour under different lighting.
At both locations, Kaimirra combines contemporary jewellery design with information about material origins, individual characteristics and jewellery care. This approach helps customers make informed choices based on their interests and personal style.
