Fashion Month delivered a mixed bag of creativity and commerce. While the industry grappled with economic headwinds and growing consumer fatigue, several designers managed to captivate audiences with their innovative and boundary-pushing collections.

Alessandro Michele’s Valentino Debut

One of the season’s most anticipated shows was undoubtedly Alessandro Michele’s debut as creative director of Valentino. While his layered aesthetic divided critics, the show was undeniably executed with precision and imbued with emotional depth.

Milan’s Strong Showing

Milan proved to be a standout this season, with several designers making significant impressions. Simone Bellotti’s unexpected interpretation of Swissness for Bally took the top spot, while Lucie and Luke Meier’s otherworldly designs for Jil Sander also garnered significant praise.

A Return to Experimentation

In a climate of increasing commercialization, designers who dared to experiment were rewarded with critical acclaim. Duran Lantink’s confident and complete collection, Loewe’s sculptural and ultra-light garments, and Junya Watanabe’s complex upcycled pieces were among the season’s highlights.

Immersive Experiences and Cultural Dialogue

Several brands elevated their shows by creating immersive experiences that engaged with culture and the wider world. Alaïa’s New York show, set against the backdrop of the Guggenheim Museum’s iconic architecture, was a particular standout. Bottega Veneta’s eclectic collection, paired with a charming design installation and a star-studded guest list, also made a strong impression. Miu Miu’s exploration of misinformation and the search for truth, through an art installation by Goshka Macuga, added an intellectual dimension to the brand’s signature aesthetic.

Classic Elegance and Modern Edge

Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent collection struck a balance between classic elegance and modern edge. The designer’s deft use of colour and androgynous tailoring resulted in a collection that was both timeless and contemporary.

Honorable Mentions

S.S. Daley’s polished and convincing womenswear debut was a highlight of the London season, while Balenciaga’s clever trompe-l’œil lingerie pieces and high-voltage soundtrack made it a strong contender in Paris.
