International rubber flooring manufacturer Artigo will begin using UPM BioMotionTM Renewable Functional Fillers (RFF) in 2025 to create its next-generation flooring collections. Artigo has reduced the weight of flooring by up to 5% per square meter and realized CO2 footprint savings of up to 0.5 kg CO2e/sq. meter[1] by utilizing UPM Biochemicals’ RFF.
UPM BioMotionTM RFF is a DIN CERTCO-certified, CO2-negative[2] solution for a range of rubber and plastic applications. It is composed completely of renewable carbon derived from sustainably managed forests. They assist manufacturers in reducing their carbon footprint by enabling flooring makers to use a greater proportion of renewable resources in their products and fewer conventional, very carbon dioxide-intensive fillers (such precipitated silica).
“UPM’s innovative BioMotionTM Renewable Functional Fillers extend the opportunities we have to improve the sustainability and technical performance of Artigo and Mondo flooring by achieving weight reductions and reducing the CO2 footprint,” said Michele Andolfo, Chief Operating Officer of Artigo.
Artigo will achieve a renewable content share of up to 30% of the total weightof the new products thanks to the addition of UPM BioMotion™ RFF. Its flooring collections contain post-industrial recovered and consumer recycled material, and also other renewable-based components alongside UPM’s RFF making Artigo a clear sustainability front runner.
