UK Sees Sharp 49% Drop in Net Fabric Prices, Averaging $16.2 per kg

United Kingdom Net Fabric Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the net fabric price amounted to $16,153 per ton (CIF, United Kingdom), which is down by -48.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 324% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $31,584 per ton in March 2023, and then shrank sharply in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($27,702 per ton), while the price for Iran ($8,243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

United Kingdom Net Fabric Imports

In April 2023, overseas purchases of tulles and other net fabrics increased by 127% to 12 tons, rising for the third month in a row after two months of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 247% against the previous month.

In value terms, net fabric imports skyrocketed to $195K (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when imports increased by 38% month-to-month.

United Kingdom Net Fabric Imports by Country

In April 2023, Iran (7.7 tons) constituted the largest net fabric supplier to the UK, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, net fabric imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (2.8 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (620 kg), with a 5.1% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Iran stood at -4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-18.3% per month) and Turkey (-16.8% per month).

In value terms, Iran ($64K), China ($35K) and Italy ($21K) were the largest net fabric suppliers to the UK, with a combined 61% share of total imports.

Italy, with a CAGR of -0.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
