Afterpay For a second year, Australian Fashion Week will be held. The center of Australia’s fashion calendar, Carriageworks in Sydney’s Redfern, will host its 27th edition in 2023, drawing editors, influencers, designers, and titans of the industry from all across the nation and abroad.
Where better than here to observe people?
As in past years, the week began with a smoking ritual and a Welcome to Country to honor the unceded Gadigal land where the festival is hosted. The first presentation of the week was Lesleigh Jermanus’s Alémais, which glitzified contemporary Australian resort clothing with a collection of vibrant, psychedelic sundresses and ’70s-inspired shifts.
There are still many treasures in this week. Denni Francisco of Ngali will stage her first First Nations designer exhibition on Wednesday, making history for the country’s fashion sector. Along with the avant-garde creations of up-and-coming trendsetters like Alix Higgins and Wackie Ju, scene stalwarts like Bianca Spender and Aje will also be on display. Without a doubt, street style will adapt to the situation.
