Declining Exports of Electric Blankets to Australia Reach $197K in August 2023, Witnessing a Drastic 36% Drop

Australia Electric Blanket Imports

In August 2023, supplies from abroad of electric blankets decreased by -34.6% to 10K units, falling for the fifth consecutive month after five months of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 with an increase of 917% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 303K units in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric blanket imports declined remarkably to $197K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 with an increase of 755% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 6.5M units in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In August 2023, China (10K units) was the main electric blanket supplier to Australia, with a approximately 99.9% share of total imports.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +3.8%.

In value terms, China ($195K) constituted the largest supplier of electric blanket to Australia.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +1.9%.

Import Prices by Country

In August 2023, the electric blanket price stood at $19.6 per unit (CIF, Australia), reducing by -2.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 139% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $25.2 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -1.8% per month.
