On a recent Friday evening, the Orange County community gathered at the iconic Strawberry Farms Big Red Barn for the annual Denim and Diamonds gala, hosted by Serving People In Need (SPIN). The event, a celebration of philanthropy and country music, raised over $350,000 to support SPIN’s mission of providing housing and essential services to homeless and near-homeless families in the area.
The gala, chaired by dedicated SPIN board member MaryLou Shattuck, featured a star-studded lineup, including Grammy-nominated country music artist Steven Cade. Cade, known for his philanthropic efforts, presented two guitars to deserving young sisters from a SPIN family, further emphasising the organisation’s commitment to uplifting the community.
The event also honoured SPIN’s new executive director, David Wetzel, who brings a wealth of experience in the fast-food industry to his role. Wetzel’s passion for giving back to the community aligns perfectly with SPIN’s mission.
The evening was filled with delicious food, live music, and a lively auction. Guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a sumptuous dinner while mingling with fellow philanthropists and supporters. The event’s presenting sponsor, Total Environmental Management (TEM), led by Curtis and Jill Scheetz, played a crucial role in the fundraising success.
SPIN’s Denim and Diamonds gala was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of community and the impact of individual generosity. The funds raised will enable SPIN to continue its vital work, providing housing, employment assistance, and other essential services to those in need.
