Shiseido, a renowned beauty giant from Japan, has recently announced plans for its American subsidiary to buy DDG Skincare Holdings, the company behind the popular Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare brand. The exact amount of the acquisition remains undisclosed.

This strategic move is seen as a significant step for Shiseido, aligning with its mission of focusing on innovation and expanding its premium skincare business. The addition of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare is considered a valuable complement to Shiseido’s existing portfolio, which includes brands like Shiseido and Clé de Peau Beauté.

Founded in 2000 by Dr. Dennis Gross, a former skin cancer researcher and dermatologist, along with his wife Carrie Gross, the skincare brand has been celebrated for its science-based approach and high-quality products. Shiseido sees this acquisition as an opportunity to leverage the brand’s expertise in active ingredients and effective skincare solutions.

Shiseido aims to provide global support, commercial experience, and research and development resources to further enhance the growth of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. Moreover, this acquisition aligns with Shiseido’s goal of expanding its presence in the Americas and strengthening its position in the region.

Masahiko Uotani, Shiseido’s Chairman and CEO, expressed that this acquisition is in line with the company’s vision to become a leading personal beauty wellness company. The partnership is anticipated to further innovation and uphold a people-centric culture, as echoed by Ron Gee, Shiseido’s Americas President/CEO, who praised Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare’s innovative approach to the beauty industry.

Dr. Dennis Gross himself has shared positive sentiments about the acquisition, viewing Shiseido as the ideal home for the brand. The transaction is awaiting regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalized in the first quarter.
