Italy Woolen Yarn Export Price in May 2023
In May 2023, the woolen yarn price amounted to $34,733 per ton (FOB, Italy), shrinking by -5.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $36,848 per ton, and then shrank in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong ($56,757 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($19,114 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Italy Woolen Yarn Exports
Woolen yarn exports from Italy skyrocketed to 2.2K tons in May 2023, increasing by 22% on April 2023 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 with an increase of 65% against the previous month.
In value terms, woolen yarn exports totaled $76M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2023. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 with an increase of 43% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in May 2023.
Italy Woolen Yarn Exports by Type
Yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale (929 tons), yarn of carded wool, not put up for retail sale (817 tons) and yarn of wool or of fine animal hair, put up for retail sale (255 tons) were the main products of woolen yarn exports from Italy, together comprising 92% of total exports. These products were followed by yarn of fine animal hair (carded or combed), not put up for retail sale and yarn of coarse animal hair or of horsehair (including gimped horsehair yarn), whether or not put up for retail sale, which together accounted for a further 8.2%.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the biggest increases were in yarn of coarse animal hair or of horsehair (including gimped horsehair yarn), whether or not put up for retail sale (with a CAGR of +6.0%), while shipments for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale ($31M), yarn of carded wool, not put up for retail sale ($19M) and yarn of fine animal hair (carded or combed), not put up for retail sale ($17M) appeared to be the most exported types of yarn of wool from Italy worldwide, together comprising 88% of total exports. Yarn of wool or of fine animal hair, put up for retail sale and yarn of coarse animal hair or of horsehair (including gimped horsehair yarn), whether or not put up for retail sale lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
Among the main product categories, yarn of coarse animal hair or of horsehair (including gimped horsehair yarn), whether or not put up for retail sale, with a CAGR of +7.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Italy Woolen Yarn Exports by Country
the UK (317 tons), Germany (184 tons) and France (156 tons) were the main destinations of woolen yarn exports from Italy, together comprising 30% of total exports.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +6.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for woolen yarn exported from Italy were Romania ($7.1M), Germany ($6.2M) and the UK ($6.1M), together comprising 26% of total exports. France, Turkey, Portugal, Hong Kong, China, Bulgaria, Tunisia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +5.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
