With the introduction of its eagerly awaited Home Report Card “Rewind 2024,” Pepperfry, India’s top online retailer of furniture and home products, has revealed important new information about consumer patterns and the changing tastes in home design in the country. The report claims that in 2024, India’s home purchasing habits changed due to a rise in the need for individualized, aesthetically pleasing, and space-efficient products.

Based on data from January 24 to December 24, Pepperfry’s thorough study reveals some intriguing trends in the market for home goods and furnishings. Notably, this year’s customer demand has been significantly influenced by space-saving solutions, multipurpose furniture, and attractive house renovations. Wall décor, sofa throws, abstract carpets, serveware with a matte finish, hydraulic beds, and folding dining tables are among the popular items. These changes reveal a stronger desire to make the most of available space at home while preserving a sophisticated and unique setting.

Ashish Shah, Chief Executive Officer at Pepperfry, said, “The Home Report Card ‘Rewind 2024’ is our second edition after 2023 and paints a clear picture of the evolving furniture and home goods consumption landscape in India. The trends we are seeing in consumer preferences, particularly in multi-functional furniture and smart design, are a direct reflection of how consumers are reimagining their living spaces. As a brand, we are thrilled to be at the heart of these changes, constantly innovating to meet the demands of a dynamic market. Our commitment to delivering an unmatched customer experience remains stronger than ever.”

Non-metropolitan cities, which represented for more than 40% of new client acquisitions in 2024, are becoming increasingly important, according to the analysis. The furniture and home goods market has seen tremendous consumer momentum in cities like Goa, Nagpur, Kochi, Vadodara, Bhopal, and Lucknow. With the establishment of new locations, omnichannel services, and quicker last-mile deliveries, Pepperfry is aggressively addressing this change.

Home furnishings, décor, and kitchen accessories have emerged as the next big thing as customers place a greater emphasis on interior design and home management. The trend toward designing places that are well-organized, useful, and well-designed is what is driving this increase in demand. It is anticipated that the tendency will continue and that new technologies will surface to meet the changing wants of consumers.

Sustainable, space-saving household items and smart furniture have emerged in 2024. The use of bamboo furniture and repurposed décor is most prevalent in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh. Space-efficient solutions, like sofas that double as beds, now make up more than 35% of sales in major cities like Mumbai, underscoring the trend toward modular and compact designs.

Growth is being driven by Pepperfry’s creative omnichannel strategy, which provides clients with a smooth fusion of online ease and in-person advice. With more than 135 locations in more than 80 cities, Pepperfry has an impressive foot traffic-to-purchase conversion rate of over 70%, highlighting the significance of both digital and physical touchpoints. The benefit of assisted buying, which Pepperfry introduced in 2024, has been further supported by the fact that in-store orders are three times more valuable than internet ones.

Lighting and décor demand skyrocketed throughout the holiday season, with Diwali contributing to a 150% rise in these areas. While Ahmedabad bought 20% more barware than Goa, Bengaluru emerged as the epicenter of late-night shopping, demonstrating that when it comes to home décor, flair still wins out over functionality.

With 1,000+ brands, more than 1 lakh listings, and a wide omnichannel presence, Pepperfry is the market leader in furniture & home goods. As the industry leader, the business is dedicated to giving consumers fashionable, high-quality products, solidifying its standing as India’s top home-related destination.

As the year progresses, Pepperfry hopes to remain at the forefront of home design innovation and anticipate the upcoming trends that will continue to influence India’s changing residential landscape.
