Malabar Group Strengthens CSR Partnership in West Bengal

Malabar Group, the diversified business conglomerate and parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Government of West Bengal to strengthen CSR partnerships across the state.

The collaboration aims to improve government-corporate coordination and expand community-focused development programmes. It will also support initiatives based on local social and development needs.

The LOI was exchanged with Finance Minister Dr. Swapan Dasgupta by Thahsil Ahammed, Regional Head, East India, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, along with Sajid N K, Manufacturing Head, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, and Shabeer P K, Senior Manager, CSR.

₹20 Crore CSR Commitment for FY 2026-27

As part of its ongoing social development efforts in West Bengal, Malabar Group has earmarked ₹20 crore for CSR initiatives during FY 2026-27.

The Group implements community programmes in the state through the Malabar Charitable Trust (MCT) and its implementing partner, Daya Rehabilitation Trust (Thanal).

These programmes cover education, nutrition, healthcare, water security, elderly care, housing and artisan welfare. Together, they aim to support underserved communities and create sustainable social impact.

Education Initiatives Reach Nearly 12,000 Children

Education remains a key focus of Malabar Group’s CSR programmes.

The Group currently supports 297 Micro Learning Centres across West Bengal, benefiting 11,873 children from underserved communities.

In addition, the Group has provided scholarships to 500 girls to support their education. Its Ujjwala Scholarship initiative also supports 500 students from the Karigar community in West Bengal.

These programmes aim to improve access to education for children from underserved and artisan families.

Focus on Nutrition and Healthcare

Malabar Group also runs initiatives focused on nutrition and basic healthcare.

The Group provides daily nutritious meals to 1,200 beneficiaries across West Bengal. In addition, its daily street medical services reach around 60 beneficiaries, extending basic healthcare support to underserved communities.

Meanwhile, water security remains another major area of intervention. Malabar Group has completed 629 drinking water wells against a target of 800, helping communities gain better access to safe drinking water.

Support for Elderly and Artisan Communities

The Group is also expanding its social welfare initiatives for elderly people and artisan communities.

A Grandma Home for 60 elderly women has been proposed in West Bengal. The facility is intended to provide accommodation, care and support to elderly women in need.

Furthermore, Malabar Group’s Samman Awas housing initiative for artisans includes a commitment to provide 140 houses, of which 80 are planned for West Bengal.

The initiative aims to improve living conditions for artisan families while supporting the wider welfare of the community.

Strengthening Government-Corporate Collaboration

The Letter of Intent supports the West Bengal Government’s efforts to create a coordinated framework for CSR partnerships.

The state’s CSR framework includes the Finance Department, State CSR Council, West Bengal CSR Portal and CSR Projects Facilitation Unit. These mechanisms aim to connect government, corporate and philanthropic organisations with identified development priorities.

Commenting on the initiative, MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, said: “At Malabar Group, CSR is an integral part of our culture, and we believe in creating meaningful and sustainable social impact. Our collaboration with the Government of West Bengal marks an important step in enhancing this approach and strengthening the alignment between corporate social responsibility and the development priorities of the state. Through our continued engagement with communities, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that enhance access to education, healthcare, nutrition, livelihoods, and essential social infrastructure. We look forward to building on this partnership and contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable future for communities across West Bengal.”

The new partnership will allow Malabar Group to deepen its existing programmes while exploring additional areas of collaboration across the state.
