The Lycra Company recently made waves in the textile industry with the introduction of its groundbreaking bio-derived fibre, Renewable LYCRA®. The unveiling took place at the prestigious ‘Fabric the Future’ event, hosted by Tex Tree Ltd. in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The event, which brought together key industry players, showcased a diverse range of Lycra’s iconic products including LYCRA COOLMAX®, LYCRA T400®, Black Technology®, THERMOLITE®, dualFX® Technology, and FitSense®. These innovative technologies are designed to enhance the performance and comfort of apparel, while also addressing the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the textile industry.
Fabrizio Maggi, Commercial Director for South Asia, Rishi Suri, Business Development Director for South Asia, and Md. Quamruzzaman, CEO of Tex Tree Ltd., provided valuable insights into Lycra fibre and its functional technologies. They emphasized the importance of bridging the knowledge gap in the industry and elevating Bangladesh’s position as a global apparel hub.
A major highlight of the event was the introduction of Renewable LYCRA® fibre made with QIRA®. This revolutionary fibre is the world’s first bio-derived spandex, boasting a remarkable 70 per cent renewable content sourced from field corn. By harnessing the power of nature, Renewable LYCRA® has the potential to reduce the carbon footprint of textile production by up to 44 per cent.
This versatile fibre is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including knit and woven fabrics, as well as personal care products. Its exceptional performance and sustainability credentials position it as a game-changer in the sustainable fashion landscape.
The Lycra Company is poised to commence large-scale production and distribution of Renewable LYCRA® fibre in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
