LOHUM, India’s largest diversified producer of sustainable critical minerals and advanced materials, has announced that its early investor, Baring Private Equity Partners (India), has completed a partial exit worth approximately ₹370 crore. The transaction generated a return of more than 20 times the invested capital (MOIC) and an internal rate of return (IRR) exceeding 80%, while Baring continues to remain a significant shareholder through its other investment funds.
Baring first invested in LOHUM in 2020, recognising the company’s technological capabilities, leadership, and the long-term opportunity for India to become a global hub for critical minerals and advanced materials. Over the past five years, LOHUM has expanded its operations across the recycling and refining of critical minerals including lithium, cobalt, copper, nickel, platinum group metals, rare earth magnets, precious metal catalysts, and cathode active materials.
The company has also prioritised employee wealth creation, enabling more than ₹100 crore in cumulative ESOP liquidity, reflecting its commitment to shared ownership alongside business growth.
A significant portion of the latest transaction was acquired by LOHUM’s existing investors and their limited partners, highlighting continued confidence in the company’s growth trajectory, technology, and long-term market potential.
Rahul Bhasin, Founder and Managing Partner of Baring Private Equity Partners, said the investment has become one of the firm’s highest-multiple exits, crediting LOHUM’s leadership for building a category-defining business in an emerging industry. He added that Baring remains optimistic about the company’s future and will continue supporting its growth through its remaining shareholding.
Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of LOHUM, said Baring’s early support played a key role in establishing a world-class critical minerals ecosystem in India. He noted that delivering strong returns to investors while creating substantial value for employees demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to shareholders, its workforce, and India’s ambitions in sustainable critical minerals and advanced materials.
LOHUM continues to strengthen its position as a global player by combining sustainable recycling, refining, and advanced materials manufacturing to reduce import dependence and support the rapidly growing global demand for critical minerals.
