Karnataka is rapidly emerging as a major consumer of shampoo hair colour in South India, marking a shift toward convenient, DIY hair colouring options. With growing awareness and preference for ease of use, the state now contributes over ₹130 crore to South India’s ₹500 crore shampoo hair colour market.

This trend reflects a broader consumer move away from traditional formats like hair colour powders and mehndi toward shampoo-based solutions that are fast, efficient, and user-friendly. According to Neeraj Senguttuvan, Head of Marketing – Personal Care at Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), rising demand stems from the desire for personalized and innovative hair colour formats.

To meet this demand, GCPL offers Godrej Selfie, a five-minute unisex shampoo hair colour available in two sizes:

  • ₹15 pack for short hair

  • ₹30 pack for long hair

The product targets users of lower-cost options, encouraging them to upgrade to a more convenient solution. The South region currently accounts for 59% of India’s shampoo hair colour sales, underlining its dominance in the segment.

With the category growing at 28% annually, experts anticipate South India, especially Karnataka, will play an increasingly significant role in shaping the national hair colour market.
