Designers that Made India Proud: Know the Indian Designers at Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is a clothing fashion show which is held every year in the month of February/March. There is a spring/summer show as well which is conducted in the month of September/October every year.

In this fashion show, there are a wide variety of designers who come from all over the world. A few of the Indian designers have also showcased their talent in this renowned fashion show. A few of them can be seen here.

  1. Rocky S

Rocky is an Indian designer who showcased the 30-year-old Indian design legacy at the Milan Fashion Week. His design was showcased as a premium couture label from India. Rocky’s ensembles have already been sported by Paris Hilton and Beyoncé in previous other shows such as Midnight Bloom. 

Rocky’s latest design is dedicated to the Italian city that captures the grandeur and allure of nocturnal flowers that bloom at night. The ensembles include printed bodycon dresses with velvet coats, evening gowns with ornate bodies, shimmer dresses with feather coasts, etc.

  1. Dhruv Kapoor 

He was the initial designer to participate in the digital calendar and trade shows that happened during Milan Fashion Week. Dhruv showcased his Armani and Prada designs in Milan. Also, Kapoor showcased his Fall/Winter 2023-2024 collection at Milan Men’s Fashion Week.  

Dhruv Kapoor has his own label which was founded by him in November 2013 with the Italian luxury label Estro’s design team. Dhruv’s design includes vocabulary in the visually striking combinations of silhouettes. 

Dhruv Kapoor’s collection showcases modern-day society’s diverse personalities. The main aim of the design is to create an interactive community where personal values are upheld. 

  1. Vaishali Shadangule

Vaishali Shadangule is the first ever Indian women designer to represent and showcase her designs at Milan Fashion Week Her collections represented Indian weaves.

Vaishali has a store in Kala Ghoda. This helped her a lot in designing with the help of her Kaarigars. Vaishali began her design career in 2011 in Gujarat. She later shifted to Mumbai where she helped people in matching fashion choices. Her designs were dedicated to Indian handlooms and handweavers. She gives full credit to an ethos for her tough times in the fashion space. 

  1. Rahul Mishra

Rahul Mishra’s design focuses on intricate designs, keeping in mind the Gandhian philosophy of circular design and cultural sustainability. Rahul Mishra is based in Delhi. He made his debut in Lakme Fashion Week in 2006 where he showcased the weaves of Kerala along with Banarasi fabric and other traditional crafts and craftsmen. Rahul Mishra was the first designer of Indian origin to win an award at Milan Fashion Week in 2014

  1. Binal Patel

Binal Patel is the founder of “TheRealB”. Binal is the youngest designer who represented India on the International stage. Binal believes in the authenticity of the fabric, cloth, color, and culture. Binal’s collection is a spin of sheer texture and fabrics. 

  1. Gaurav Gupta

Gaurav Gupta is a designer who focuses on Indian construction and embellishing techniques, keeping in mind the future. Most of Gaurav’s styles are futuristic and primitive. He has also collaborated with IBM and Vogue to create a garment based on Artificial Intelligence. 

  1. Falguni and Shane Peacock

Falguni and Shane Peacock made their debut on stage with Indian Fashion Week. They have a global presence in Dubai, London, New York City, and Los Angeles

  1. Sabyasachi Mukharjee 

Sabyasachi is an Indian fashion designer, jewelry designer and couturier. His collections are based on Indian weaves, cotton, and other hand-woven fabrics. His design philosophy is ‘Personalized imperfection of the human hand’.

  1. Manish Malhotra

Manish Malhotra is a costume stylist in Bollywood and a fashion designer for the past 30 years. His collections are based on aesthetics for leading actors and style icons. Manish is one of the bold fashion creators and influencers. His design is considered a luxury brand. 

  1. Kulsum Shadab Wahab

She is the founder of Ara Lumiere. She believes in fashion for a cause. She made her debut alongside Dhruv Kapoor in Milan Fashion Week in 2019. Her fashion is mainly for women who are survivors of violence.
