The John Lewis Partnership, known for its operation of the renowned department store chain John Lewis and the supermarket Waitrose, has introduced a new lifestyle brand with a strong design focus. This brand, named ‘Made With Care,’ is a collaborative effort that seeks to combine exceptional design and desirable products. What sets it apart is its unique approach to creating a platform for talented individuals who have grown up in the care system, providing them with a space to showcase their creativity.

‘Made With Care’ aims to not only offer remarkable products but also to bring the spotlight to individuals with a background in the care system. The retail group sees this initiative as a means to empower these talented designers and creators and enable their voices to be heard. The inaugural product under the ‘Made With Care’ brand is a vibrant ‘shopper’ tote bag designed by 18-year-old aspiring artist Michael Archibald from Glasgow. This tote bag will be available for purchase at both John Lewis and Waitrose stores, with a price tag of £12 starting from December 11. What makes this tote bag even more special is that it will contribute to the ‘Building Happier Futures’ employability initiative, which was launched by the John Lewis Partnership a year ago. This initiative is dedicated to providing employability programs for individuals who have experienced the care system.

Sharon White, the Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, highlighted the significance of ‘Made With Care’ by emphasizing that it offers a creative platform for exceptionally talented individuals who have grown up in the care system. Each design from this brand reflects a unique and poignant story, providing customers with the opportunity to purchase beautiful products with a meaningful background.

Queralt Ferrer, the Director of Design for Fashion at John Lewis, further commented on the tote bag, explaining that the design brief was intentionally open, allowing the young artist Michael to express his creativity authentically. The tote bag’s design effectively conveys the message of ‘Made With Care,’ with stars symbolizing the individuals who have grown up in the care system, surrounded by the support provided by the program.

‘Made With Care’ represents a compelling approach to design and retail, where creativity is celebrated and meaningful stories are shared through carefully curated products. It embodies a commitment to both design excellence and social inclusivity, making it a noteworthy addition to the John Lewis Partnership’s offerings.
