Hollister to Exit Aberdeen City Centre as Retail Landscape Shifts

Aberdeen’s Union Square shopping centre is facing a retail shake-up as Hollister, the popular American casual wear brand, prepares to close its doors next month. The closure marks the end of an era for the brand in the Granite City, where it first established a Scottish presence back in 2010. This departure follows the recent closure of Fat Face in the same complex, signalling a potential shift in the city’s retail landscape.

While the official statement from Hollister’s parent company, Abercrombie & Fitch, emphasizes the importance of physical stores and hints at exploring new retail opportunities in the UK, including Aberdeen, the immediate future for local shoppers looks Hollister-less. The brand assures customers that they are committed to delivering a positive shopping experience and are actively seeking suitable locations.

The closure comes after Fat Face’s departure last month, following its acquisition by Next. While Next has pledged to maintain Fat Face’s creative independence, the Aberdeen store ultimately succumbed to changing retail dynamics. Until the end of February, Hollister will continue to operate its Union Square location daily, giving shoppers a final opportunity to browse its offerings. The retail community now awaits news of Hollister’s potential return and watches to see how this evolving retail landscape will reshape Aberdeen’s shopping experience.
