Flipkart, a prominent e-commerce giant, has seen a notable increase in online shopping activity from rural consumers, particularly in the fashion segment, as detailed in its ‘FlipTrends Report 2023’.
According to Ravi Vijaya Raghavan, Senior Vice President of Analytics and Data Science at Flipkart, the report sheds light on diverse consumer behavior patterns within India. Anticipating a positive sentiment during the upcoming winter festive season, the company is optimistic about continued growth.
Analyzing data from over 500 million registered users, Flipkart observed an average online shopping duration of around seven hours this year. Impressively, the platform also welcomed more than 41 million new customers by November, indicating a significant expansion.
Following its introduction in October, Flippi, the Chat-GPT-powered shopping support tool by Flipkart, engaged with over four million users. A noteworthy trend identified from the analysis was the active shopping carts seen in cities like Trivandrum, Patna, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Cuttack, Medinipur, and Bankura. This trend underscores the growing participation of customers from non-metro areas in online shopping activities, highlighting the evolving landscape of digital retail in India’s rural regions.
