Flipkart Boosts Odisha’s Economy with New Grocery Fulfillment Center

Flipkart is expanding its presence in Odisha with the opening of its first grocery fulfillment center in Bhubaneswar. Covering a vast area of 1.35 lakh square feet, the center aims to ensure the swift delivery of groceries within 24 hours of order placement, contributing to the economic development of the region. This strategic move is set to create over 300 direct and indirect job opportunities, supporting local sellers, MSMEs, and farmers.

The fulfillment center is equipped to handle a dispatch capacity exceeding 2.09 lakh units per day, catering to a daily influx of 16,000 orders across key locations in Odisha. The facility will showcase a diverse range of regionally beloved brands, responding to consumer preferences gleaned from search results. Notable regional favorites such as Jharna Ghee, Kasper Rice, Usna rice, Lijjat Papad, Omfed Ghee, and local namkeen brands like Mukhorochak will be available, meeting the diverse palate of Odisha’s consumers.

Shri. Pratap Keshari Deb, Hon’ble Minister, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Department, Government of Odisha, commended Flipkart’s initiative, stating that it aligns with the state’s vision for socio-economic progress. The grocery fulfillment center is seen as a significant step toward advancing local MSMEs and farmers, providing them access to the national market.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to bridging the digital gap and uplifting local economies. The launch of the fulfillment center in Odisha is not just about convenience but is also a demonstration of Flipkart’s dedication to empowering communities, local businesses, and small farmers.

Hari Kumar G, VP, Head of Grocery, Flipkart, highlighted the increasing demand for online grocery deliveries in the eastern region. The new fulfillment center aims to expedite order deliveries and enable sellers to offer a wide selection of locally relevant products, contributing to the comprehensive growth of the local economy.

In alignment with Flipkart’s broader mission, this initiative in Odisha seeks to create livelihood opportunities for regional MSMEs, sellers, and farmers. With technology-driven solutions, Flipkart aims to enhance user interactions and provide an elevated experience in the grocery sector. With approximately 24 fulfillment centers across India serving over 1,800 cities and 10,000 PIN code areas, Flipkart continues to play a vital role in supporting socio-economic development across the country.
