At Vestel Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Van’s Ipekyolu district in eastern Turkey, students in the Fashion Design Department are making clothing for the underprivileged. During their schooling and trade training, these students help others in need by using their abilities. The kids make garments out of textiles they find themselves, which are subsequently given to caretakers in nursing homes or underprivileged pupils at different schools.
About 100 students from grades 9 through 12 are enrolled in the program, according to Hacer Gündağ, a teacher at the Fashion Design Department. “We primarily offer education focused on textiles; under the umbrella of fashion design, we prepare students for professions ranging from design to textile engineering,” she stated.
According to Gündağ, who also highlighted the school’s social responsibility initiative, “The students themselves procure the fabrics, we also support students who are financially disadvantaged, the clothes produced here are typically sent to care homes, nursing homes, or schools with students in need.”
According to Gündağ, the project fosters in the kids a spirit of giving. “Both the recipients and our students feel happy, and the students express interest in participating in future projects,” she said.
Students that worked on the project remarked that it makes them happy to be able to create something worthwhile for people in need.
