At the Craft Bazaar hosted by NIFT Daman, a panel of textile experts and students emphasized the importance of recycling, upcycling, and conscious consumerism in strengthening India’s economy. The discussion called for greater awareness of fashion education and encouraged parents to support careers in fashion and textiles.

Panelists highlighted the role of sustainable practices, technological innovations, and cultural heritage in shaping the future of the textile industry. A key point noted that “every third person in India is connected to textiles,” underscoring its vast significance.

A NIFT student linked textiles to all three economic sectors—agriculture, manufacturing, and services—showing the industry’s comprehensive impact. The discussion also explored the power of social media in spotlighting artisans and traditional crafts, helping connect creators with conscious consumers.

The session concluded that empowering women and artisans, and ensuring their basic needs, is vital for sustaining crafts and boosting the economy.
