Ecopel and DyeCoo have revealed they have created a recycled polyester fur that is coloured without the use of water after a three-year partnership inspired by Kering.
An invention that is said to resemble sheepskin in appearance and feel but is not yet on the market. The method used by DyeCoo uses CO2 instead of water to avoid utilising it. Although DyeCoo is familiar with the procedure, it was difficult to use it to create faux fur for French manufacturer Ecopel.
According to Christian Tubito, director of Kering’s Materials Innovation Lab, using it for a different product was both a great challenge and a fascinating experience. A water-free and chemical-free treatment plant will soon be operational in Europe to scale up production, so it was also a forward-thinking decision. This is only one of the many processing advances Kering has implemented in an effort to lessen resource usage in the fashion sector, the executive said in a statement.
