Since the show is set in the 1940s and revolves around the lives of courtesans in Lahore’s Heeramandi, the designers drew inspiration from a variety of historical materials. The narrative of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar may have always been on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mind, but according to Rimple Narula of Rimple-Harpreet Narula couture, the team responsible for the opulent costumes seen in the magnum opus, the first conversations about the costumes took place precisely 2.5 years ago.

In an exclusive interview with, Rimple revealed that the director paid a visit to their factory in Delhi while his movie Gangubai Kathiawadi was being post-produced. “His two days at our factory were incredibly educational. After hearing our thoughts, he offered his wisdom to help us realize his vision.

The designers, who are well-known for their bridal gowns, showered the director, who is renowned for his exquisite vision for detail and lavish outfits, with compliments. Whenever we could get from Delhi to Mumbai for a shoot, Bhansali ji always included us in the shootings. He desires for you to accompany him on the whole adventure. The final appearance was everyone’s vision combined, according to Rimple, who also created the costumes for Bhansali’s Padmaavat, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor.

Rimple revealed that designing for the ensemble cast, which includes Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Manisha Koirala, was nothing short of a dream as Heeramandi premieres on Netflix. “Given the praise and admiration we have been receiving from all over the world, it is a dream come true for us.

While the men, portrayed by Fardeen Khan and Shekhar Suman, among others, are shown in kurta pajamas, sherwanis, and bandanas, the characters in the program are seen in lehenga, Anarkali outfits, and ghararas.
