The CO2-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference 2026 will take place on 28–29 April 2026 in Cologne, Germany, and online, bringing together global experts from industry, research and policy to address the next phase of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU). Organised by Nova-Institut, the conference presents strategic outlooks, technology updates and real-world project examples across the CCU value chain.

This year’s programme places strong emphasis on the integration of green hydrogen and reliable CO2 sourcing, alongside cost-competitive pathways for CO2-based fuels, chemicals, polymers and advanced materials. Sessions will examine certification frameworks, sustainability assessments, life-cycle analysis integration and policy developments supporting Power-to-X and renewable carbon strategies.

Key discussions include regional hydrogen ramp-up strategies, low-emissions hydrogen in chemical production and innovative approaches to identifying and validating biogenic CO2 sources. The agenda also highlights scale-up progress through pilot and industrial case studies covering CO2-to-methanol, electrochemical conversion, syngas production, ethylene via electrolysis and CO2-derived polymers and surfactants.

The event regularly attracts over 230 international decision-makers focused on defossilisation pathways for chemicals, aviation fuels and materials. Alongside conference sessions, the programme features poster pitches, panel discussions, a trade exhibition and the annual “Best CO2 Utilisation” innovation award, co-organised with CO2 Value Europe.

By combining strategic policy insights with applied technology examples, the CO2-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference 2026 positions itself as a key platform for advancing commercially viable CCU solutions.
