Ahnaf Ali, Sheetu Latif, and Michael Jafine endeavor to introduce a fresh alternative to the Canadian fashion sphere.
Bangladesh is a country that is recognized for being one of the largest garment manufacturers in the world. In fact, upon glancing through a wardrobe, it is highly likely that the tag “Made in Bangladesh” will be seen. In light of this fact, a new brand has emerged that aims to merge the rich industry experience of Bangladesh with a “designed in Toronto” sensibility. Ahiri, a brand established by co-founders Ahnaf Ali and Sheetu Latif, alongside head designer Michael Jafine, brings a new option to the market by providing high-quality pieces designed in Canada and made in Bangladesh, with a focus on catering to
the needs of the North American consumer.
The brand focuses on creating essentials with a fresh twist and combines contemporary trends and traditional styles to make seasonless staples. Its square-neck knit dress, which features an eye-catching symmetrical pattern, has become an instant bestseller, earning the nickname “the butterfly dress” on social media. Ahiri has also placed significant emphasis on the manufacturing process and production. The brand has partnered with factories in Bangladesh that maintain a high standard when it comes to sustainability, safety, and working conditions. Jafine explains that one of the brand’s co-founders owning the factories used for production gives them a lot of control to ensure their production is ethical.
Despite being only a year since the brand’s debut collection, Ahiri already has dedicated fans and a successful Toronto retail pop-up. Jafine, who gained experience interning for fashion brands The Row and Proenza Schouler in New York, is confident that the line resonates with consumers because of its ability to go beyond trends and intuitively provide what people search for to fill the gaps in their wardrobes. With two collections under their belt and two more coming up, Ahiri is poised to make a mark that transcends borders and becomes a global fashion presence.
In conclusion, Ahiri is an innovative brand that seeks to bridge the North American and Bangladeshi fashion experiences by providing high-quality, seasonless staples that cater to the needs of consumers. The brand places significant emphasis on the manufacturing process, ensuring the production is ethical, sustainable, and safe. With devoted fans and a thriving retail pop-up, Ahiri is poised to make a mark in the fashion industry globally.
