The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has announced the appointment of Olatz Finez as its new Trade and Environment Policy Officer. With over six years of experience in EU policy analysis, legal research, and strategic advocacy, Olatz brings extensive expertise in sustainability, climate affairs, and international trade.
Previously, she worked with the Delegation of the Basque Country to the EU, the European Ombudsman, and the European Environmental Bureau, where she focused on industrial pollution, the EU Chemical Strategy, and critical raw materials. Olatz holds a Law and International Relations degree from Bilbao and specialized in human rights law with a focus on climate and environmental issues at the University of Leiden. Multilingual in Basque, Spanish, English, and French, she is also learning Italian and German.
Welcoming her to the team, BIR Trade and Environment Director Alev Somer said, “As Trade and Environment Policy Officer, Olatz will lead our work on ferrous, stainless, critical raw materials, and shredders, while monitoring EU and Latin American policy developments. Her strong legal and policy expertise will be instrumental in supporting our members and driving industry priorities.”
BIR members will have the opportunity to meet Olatz at the World Recycling Convention & Exhibition in Bangkok this October.
