As Tiruppur, a centre for the apparel manufacturing sector, begins to recoup from a slowdown, businesses in the area are experiencing a labour shortage. This is due to the fact that many employees view employment.

“We have seen orders from the US climbing by 10% in the last three months compared to the same period of the previous year,” stated M. Subramanian, head of the Tiruppur Exporters Association, in an ET Bureau report. Over the past few years, the Covid outbreak, the US & European economic downturn, the Russia-Ukraine war.

The recent seven-phase elections, which necessitated many voters to travel back to their hometowns to cast their ballots, contributed to the mass departure of Tiruppur’s garment manufacturing workforce. The previous president of the Tiruppur Exporters Association, Raja Shanmugam, claims that some employees are now returning home.
