While it’s common to repurpose outdated dresses, few of us can claim to have recycled a runway debut. For Chanel. Fashion. It’s possible that only Naomi Campbell can claim that—and if anybody else can, they’re in excellent company.
The supermodel donned an outfit she first debuted at the Chanel fall 1996 couture show today at the Cannes premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The sensual floor-length dress had straps made of pearl threads draped over her shoulders, supporting a black sequined bodice. The same black paillettes are used in the dress’s mermaid skirt, which alternates with rows of translucent black tulle. On the 1990s catwalk, Campbell wore the dress over a black slip; however, in 2024, she chose to eschew the outfit and wear black underwear instead.
With a glammed-up version of the ensemble she sashayed down the catwalk in 27 years, Campbell was styled by Law Roach, who also wore Chanel—the brand’s iconic tweed jacket. Instead of the round patent leather shoes from the Chanel presentation, she chose a pair of matte black pointy-toe pumps and accessorized them with a statement set of dangling earrings. Additionally, she let her thick curls fall down her back today, unlike when she kept her hair in a neat crop in 1996.
One of the most lasting models of all time is already Naomi Campbell. She is now demonstrating the worth and versatility of a lasting wardrobe.
