Turkish Pop Icon Hande Yener Brings Her Fashion Archive to Europe with STAR Gene
For more than two decades, Turkish singer-songwriter Hande Yener has built a distinctive visual identity alongside her music career, known for experimental styling, constant reinvention and an extensive wardrobe shaped by performances, music videos and public appearances.
That fashion legacy now takes centre stage at STAR Gene, an independent archive store and creative concept launched by Yener in Amsterdam. Following the opening of its physical location, the project has expanded online, making selected archive, vintage and pre-owned pieces available to customers across Europe.
From Personal Wardrobe to Fashion Archive
Located at Herenstraat 32 in Amsterdam, STAR Gene brings together rare designer fashion, vintage garments and pre-owned luxury sourced from the secondary market. A key part of the offering comes from Yener’s own wardrobe and personal fashion archive, featuring pieces associated with different stages of her career, performances and evolving visual identity.
Throughout her career, Yener has used fashion as an extension of her music and stage persona. As her sound and artistic direction evolved, so did her wardrobe, creating an archive that spans more than 20 years of changing aesthetics, collaborations and performance culture.
Rather than leaving these garments and accessories in storage, STAR Gene gives selected pieces a new context and an opportunity for a second life.
Where Fashion, Art and Music Meet
STAR Gene has been conceived as more than a conventional fashion retail space. The Amsterdam location brings together fashion, art and music, presenting archive clothing alongside contemporary creative work and objects.
The concept also reflects a wider movement within fashion towards extending the life cycle of existing garments while recognising the cultural and creative value of personal wardrobes and performance archives.
From Amsterdam to the European Market
With European online sales now available, STAR Gene extends beyond its Amsterdam location, allowing customers across Europe to explore a selection of archive, vintage and pre-owned pieces.
For Yener, the expansion builds naturally on the concept behind STAR Gene.
“Fashion has always been another form of expression for me, just like music. Over the years, I accumulated pieces that belonged to very different moments of my life and career. I didn’t want them simply to remain in an archive. STAR Gene allows these pieces to continue their stories with someone else. Opening that world to people across Europe feels like the next step.”
Rather than presenting the collection solely as a retrospective of Yener’s career, STAR Gene approaches fashion as something that can move between owners, eras and contexts. Each piece retains its history while becoming part of a new story.
