The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) has announced a new editorial leadership team for its peer-reviewed journal, Coloration Technology, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the publication’s growth and international development.
Following an international recruitment process conducted in collaboration with Wiley, SDC has appointed two editors who will jointly lead the journal. From April 2026, Dr Mohammad Tajul Islam will assume the role of Editor-in-Chief, while Prof Dr Roshan Paul will join as Associate Editor.
Published in partnership with Wiley since 1999, Coloration Technology has a longstanding history dating back to 1884, when it was first launched as the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (JSDC).
Leadership Transition
After serving more than a decade in the role, Andrew Towns will step down as Editor-in-Chief, having led the journal since 2011. During his tenure, the publication achieved notable progress, including consistent growth in its Impact Factor, reaching an all-time high.
Dr Graham Clayton, CEO of the SDC, said:
“Appointing two editors is a forward-looking decision that reflects both the scale of the opportunity ahead and the ambition we have for the journal. Taj and Roshan bring complementary strengths, international networks and deep expertise, which will be instrumental in shaping the next chapter of Coloration Technology.”
New Editorial Appointments
Dr Mohammad Tajul Islam, also known as Taj, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief. He is an Associate Professor at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in Bangladesh and has served on the journal’s Editorial Panel since 2020. He is also actively engaged with the SDC Bangladesh Region Committee and other professional bodies.
Prof Dr Roshan Paul has been appointed Associate Editor. Based at the University of Beira Interior in Portugal, he brings extensive editorial expertise, having been a member of the Editorial Panel since 2008, alongside a distinguished international career in textile science.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr Islam said:
“It’s a privilege to take on this role and build on the excellent work already achieved. We’re focused on expanding the journal’s global reach and continuing to enhance its relevance to both academia and industry.”
Prof Paul added:
“I am delighted to step into this role at such an important time for the journal. Having been involved with Coloration Technology for many years, I am excited to work alongside Dr Islam to further strengthen its international profile and academic excellence, while supporting the next generation of research in the field.”
Expanding Global Reach
The new dual-editor structure reflects the journal’s growing international focus. With one editor based in Europe and the other in Asia, Coloration Technology is positioned to strengthen engagement with global research communities, academic institutions, and international conferences.
This strategic editorial transition signals SDC’s ambition to further elevate the journal’s standing in textile science, dyeing, and coloration research while expanding its relevance across academia and industry.
