Asahi Kasei will present major advancements in PFAS-free materials and carbon fiber recycling at K 2025, the world’s leading plastics and rubber trade fair, held from October 8–15 in Düsseldorf, Germany (Hall 8a, Booth E23).

A highlight will be the company’s new recycling process for CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) pressure vessels used in automobiles. By applying electrolyzed sulfuric acid, Asahi Kasei decomposes resin matrices completely while preserving continuous carbon fibers in their original strength. Unlike conventional methods that yield only chopped fibers, this innovation enables endless recycling of cost-effective, high-quality continuous fibers. At the fair, Asahi Kasei will showcase over 200 meters of recycled continuous carbon fiber.

In response to sustainability needs, the company will also introduce PFAS-free LEONATM polyamide, combining low-friction properties comparable to fluororesins with safer, eco-friendly composition. This material is ideal for sliding parts in automotive, robotics, office automation equipment, and sporting goods.

Other key exhibits include:

  • Bio-based cellulose nano fiber (CNF) composites: Cotton-linter derived CNF enhances both polyamide and SEBS compounds, enabling 3D printing with high accuracy, smooth surface finish, and tunable softness. Applications range from prosthetics and orthotics to tooling.

  • AZPTM transparent polymer: Lightweight, nearly zero birefringence polymer for HUD displays and VR/AR optical components.

  • SEBS one-step molding for auto interiors: Simplifies panel production by eliminating adhesives, improving recyclability, and reducing weight.

  • SunForceTM mPPE particle foam: Flame-retardant, heat-resistant foam for EV batteries, HVAC insulation, and FRP cores.

  • XYRONTM mPPE for radar antennas: Enables injection-molded resin alternatives to metal, reducing cost and scaling production for automotive radar.

Through these innovations, Asahi Kasei is addressing lightweighting, circularity, and advanced connectivity in automotive and high-tech applications, underscoring its role as a global leader in sustainable material solutions.
