In April 2024, Australian retail turnover rose by 0.1% following a decline in March. Clothing, footwear, and personal accessory retailing dropped by 0.7% in seasonally adjusted terms. However, most non-food related industries saw growth during the same period. The data was released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), retail categories such as household goods, department stores, and other retail industries saw an increase in sales in April. New South Wales and South Australia were among the regions that experienced growth in retail turnover. However, overall retail spending remains weak, with a minimal increase in April not enough to offset a previous decline in March. The trend in retail turnover has been stagnant since the beginning of 2024 due to cautious consumer spending habits.
