The question of whether large over-the-top (OTT) companies should make financial contributions to support the telecom sector in building digital infrastructure has been up for debate for a while.
A reasonable fee for LTGs (huge traffic generators) has been discussed. The controversial problem is not limited to the Indian market, and other nations are debating possible remedies. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which is the trade association for telecom companies such as Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio, has been advocating for “same service, same rules” and a reasonable fee that will be agreed upon by the telecom companies and over-the-top (OTT) players. In return for using the network, these parties must contribute to the development of digital telecom infrastructure in India.
