H&M UK collaborated with tertiary art school Central Saint Martins to develop the H&M Sustainable Fashion and Journalism Awards in order to foster more solutions to the fashion industry’s most pressing issues, such as sustainability and innovation.

The four first scholarship winners each received a stipend to apply toward their collections and degree projects, as well as extra support such as visibility and networking opportunities.

Among this year’s winners are:

• Ella Dewberry, winner of the BA Fashion Communication: Fashion Journalism, and her platform Plexa, a sustainability repository explored through augmented reality. Plexa, founded on meta-fun, takes a forward-thinking approach to the myriad ethical and sustainability challenges confronting the fashion business today.

• BA Fashion Design Winner Daniel Fabara and his menswear collection ANAKULL.

• BA Fashion Design Winner Max Brewer and Angels, a womenswear line that prioritises sustainability. Max collaborated with Care Opticians and Ace&Tate to design a set of headpieces inspired by wing patterns constructed from repurposed lenses.

In an exclusive Sustainable Exhibition event, the winners were able to present their collections and projects to the UK’s fashion network, where press, brands, stylists, and design teams were able to meet and experience the winners’ works. The winners’ collections and initiatives will also be shown in H&M’s Oxford Circus shop window during August and September.

“In its debut year, H&M’s Sustainable Fashion and Journalism Awards hope to establish themselves as a long-term force in the UK fashion industry.”
