Wolverine World Wide, Inc has successfully sold the Sperry brand to Authentic Brands Group, Inc, and the Aldo Group. This deal, completed on January 10, 2024, is set to bring in approximately $130 million in the first quarter, which will be used to reduce the company’s debt. This move follows a series of asset monetization transactions in 2023, generating nearly $250 million in cash.

Chris Hufnagel, Wolverine Worldwide’s president and CEO, emphasized that the sale of the Sperry brand is a pivotal step in their ongoing strategic transformation. The company’s commitment to this transformation has involved streamlining its portfolio, reducing debt, and reshaping the organization to enhance overall performance and profitability.

Wolverine Worldwide, known for brands like Merrell, Saucony, Wolverine, and others, experienced an 11.2% increase in sales to $2.7 billion in the 2022 financial year. However, in 2023, the company reported a reduction in sales to $2.24 billion. Hufnagel expressed excitement about the upcoming phase of their turnaround, focusing on building consumer-centric global brands and delivering increased value for shareholders.
