Prada, a prestigious fashion house, contributed to the creation of space suits for the 2025
Moon mission so NASA astronauts would fly in style.

The outfits will be created by the Italian fashion firm in collaboration with Axiom Space, another private business.

Axiom said in a news statement that Prada will provide knowledge of materials and production to the undertaking. One astronaut told the BBC that Prada’s skill in design made them up to the task.

This expertise was gained via Prada’s participation in the America’s Cup sailing competition as well as on the Milan catwalks.

Professor Jeffrey Hoffman, who has flown five NASA missions and completed four spacewalks, claims that Prada “has considerable experience with various types of composite fabrics and may actually be able to make some real technical contributions to the outer layers of the new space suit.”

However, he warned against expecting to see astronauts dressed in “paisley spacesuits or any fancy patterns like that.” The most important thing is actually to maintain a favourable temperature environment.

“A spacesuit is essentially a tiny spaceship. It must maintain pressure, oxygen, and a comfortable body temperature, he said.

Axiom presented a spacesuit earlier this year, claiming it will be used on the future Artemis 3 mission.

The 55kg suit was believed to fit female passengers better and weigh 55kg. Using “innovative technologies and design,” Artemis and Prada promised in a press release they would enable “greater exploration of the lunar surface than ever before.”

After Apollo 17 in 1972, a crew won’t land on the Moon until the Artemis 3 mission, and Christina Koch, the first woman to do so, will be part of the crew.
