YKK Honored with Orange Innovation Award 2024 for Dementia-Friendly Zipper Innovation

YKK Corporation has been awarded the top prize at the Orange Innovation Award 2024, presented by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The award recognizes YKK’s inclusive product development efforts, particularly for creating user-friendly zippers through direct collaboration with individuals living with dementia.

The Orange Innovation Award celebrates innovations that enhance the daily lives of people with dementia through co-creation and inclusive design. YKK stood out for its participatory approach, working closely with affected individuals to develop zipper solutions that improve accessibility across generations.

A key highlight was the click-TRAK® Magnetic zipper, designed to self-align using magnets, making fastening easier for those with cognitive or physical challenges. The project engaged diverse stakeholders and emphasized feedback-driven development.

The award ceremony was held on March 5, underscoring YKK’s commitment to designing small but impactful innovations for a more inclusive society.
