YKK Develops LUXFLAT Zipper for Premium Handbags

YKK Corporation has developed LUXFLAT, a metal zipper designed for handbags, with a global launch planned for November 2026. The new zipper aims to improve functionality and appearance by reducing sliding resistance while delivering a refined finish.

LUXFLAT Reduces Zipper Sliding Resistance by Over 60%

LUXFLAT features an innovative element shape and a specially developed tape. These design improvements address the sliding resistance commonly found in standard metal zippers.

According to YKK’s internal testing, LUXFLAT reduces sliding resistance by over 60% compared with a standard metal zipper. The test compared the LUXFLAT zipper with a standard metal zipper using chain code 5RGMP and a standard slider using code DFH4.

The zipper also features a flatter chain surface, creating a sleek appearance and a smoother feel to the touch. These characteristics make it suitable for premium leather handbags, where material quality, finish and user experience are important.
