STOCKHOLM, Sweden, September 18, 2024 — TrusTrace, In order to provide a comprehensive solution that supports international brands looking to implement more product marketing accountability, a global SaaS company that leads the market in platform engineering for product traceability and supply chain compliance in fashion and retail today announced a strategic collaboration with platform engineering firm Xoriant and environmental impact data leader Carbon Trail.

“This partnership is a pioneering initiative; we are addressing not only today’s challenges, but we’re paving the way for a more sustainable future in a rapidly evolving industry where regulations are becoming more stringent and consumer expectations are higher than ever,” said Shameek Ghosh, CEO and co-founder of TrusTrace. “This partnership brings together Xoriant’s strong implementation skills, Carbon Trail’s cutting-edge environmental insights, and TrusTrace’s extensive experience in supply chain traceability and transparency to deliver an end-to-end solution that helps fashion brands and retailers meet the challenges of impact improvement and regulatory compliance.”

Utilizing Xoriant’s robust data architecture, TrusTrace’s supply chain traceability data, and Carbon Trail’s environmental impact data, the new solution—the first of its type in the industry—provides businesses with the precise information they need to promote their products.

This new technological solution is being implemented in tandem with the Green Claims Code, which was first introduced in 2021 and revised in 2023 to account for the environmental impact specific to individual products. The code aims to guarantee that claims are precise, accurate, and not deceptive; that specific and clear information regarding the materials used is provided; that accurate product filters are used and deceptive imagery is avoided; and that claims are backed by verifiable strategies and third-party accreditation.

“Xoriant’s core competency has always been utilizing cutting-edge technologies to engineer excellence in sustainable business processes. Shyam Pawar, vice president of sales at Xoriant, says, “We’re delivering a joint solution with robust data architecture and real-time supply chain insights through this trifecta partnership.” This enables fashion businesses and retailers to maintain compliance, efficiency, and scalability while obtaining precise data for product claims.

In terms of data, brands must assess the environmental impact of their products at the product level. This includes measuring the effects of water, land use, microfibres, and more than just carbon. Ashish Rohil, CEO and co-founder of Carbon Trail, stated, “To meet requirements of LCA frameworks like PEF, the underlying data has to be comprehensive and accurate when you make an environmental claim on any product.”

Data on the supply chain and environmental effect can then be combined to create a Digital Product Passport, which is a record that can reveal a product’s whole value chain via a digital tag or QR code and will be necessary for EU brands between 2026 and 2030. A buyer may hypothetically be able to view the environmental impact of a particular product by scanning its QR code, for instance, and being directed to a special URL link. This can be shown alongside information about product certifications, recyclability, microplastics, and traceability.

“We’re thrilled to announce this joint collaboration that will truly help brands aggregate the data they need to market their products effectively and truthfully to climate-conscious consumers,” Ghosh concluded. “We invite fashion and retail brands to join us in this transformative journey!”
