Wide-leg jeans, colloquially called baggy pants, are a style of clothing that were popular from the
early 1990s to the mid 2000s. The quintessential brand of “hip-hop”-style wide-leg jeans comes
from the Los Angeles–based JNCO, although other youth- and ethnic-oriented clothing companies
manufacture them as well.
Wide-leg jeans are great for those with rectangle or triangle body shapes; the exaggerated cut adds just a bit oomph to your straight, slim legs. And if you’re short, a cropped pair with a high-rise can (seemingly) give you a boost in height. Wide-leg pants: Wide-leg pants, also known as palazzo pants, are fitted at the waist and flare out from the hips. Palazzo pants for women first became a popular trend in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The style was reminiscent of the wide-legged cuffed pants worn by some women fond of avant-garde fashions in the 1930s and 1940s, particularly actresses such as Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. Wider cut trousers are inherently roomier, naturally waist- cinching, and make transitioning from sweats to jeans post- pandemic easy breezy. Wide leg pants and wide leg jeans came back on the scene for Spring Summer 2021 and they’re here to stay for 2022! Wide leg trousers are one of those styles that can be so hit and miss, especially with jeans but the best women’s wide leg pants for 2022 are super flattering.- Urmi Mitra
