A select group of fashionistas select their favorite designer items each time they attend New York Fashion Week. The Prada logo tank tops and negligible strappy heels from The Line were worn by everybody last year. However, the delicate Manolos were overshadowed this past week by a shoe that was certain to go viral: The huge red boots from MSCHF, which are appropriately dubbed the Huge Red Boot.
If you’ve never heard of MSCHF, it’s an experimental fashion brand that loves to use product launches to make a statement—often controversial—about the fashion industry. They’ve made boots that look like medical casts, Satan sneakers with a real blood drop in the soles, and Birkinstock sandals out of Hermès Birkins. The name loves to push the boundaries of design and, more importantly, stands out as truly newsworthy. Their most recent item, which resembles Mario from Super Mario Bros., was released today.
They cost $350 and are modeled after video games. They have an EVA midsole and are made of TPU rubber. “Cartoonishness is an abstraction that frees us from the constraints of reality,” the boots press release stated. Somebody will go boing on the off chance that you kick them in these boots!
