Virgio’s Sustainable Fashion: A Commitment to Transparency and Style

Published: January 5, 2024
Author: Fashion Value Chain

Amar Nagaram, co-founder of Virgio, a Bengaluru-based circular fashion brand, has chosen to confront the harsh reality of fashion’s environmental impact rather than dwelling in ignorance. Virgio recently launched collections like ‘Born to Shine’, ‘Wild Romance’, and ‘The Safari Edit’, with a strong focus on sustainability. The brand prioritizes transparency by communicating the environmental footprint of each garment, including carbon emissions, water, and energy consumption. Nagaram emphasizes the importance of consumers understanding the impact of wastage and questioning their choices.

The ‘Born to Shine’ collection showcases high-quality, durable garments with vibrant pops of color and stylish details. ‘Wild Romance’ features botanical and tropical prints in earthy tones, while ‘The Safari Edit’ delves into animal prints. All garments use natural fabrics like cotton, modal, lyocell, viscose, and linen, known for being gentle on the skin, renewable, biodegradable, and requiring fewer resources to produce.

Virgio goes beyond fabric choices, ensuring azo-free and non-toxic dyes, partnering with ethical manufacturers, and incorporating small yet impactful details like QR code labels and convertible packaging. Amar Nagaram acknowledges the challenges in the sustainable fashion journey, including high costs, limited availability of sustainable materials, and resistance from brands and consumers. However, his commitment to breaking the cycle of fashion excess remains unwavering.
