After nearly two years of cancellations, music festival season is back in full force this summer, with festival goers and fashionistas alike flocking to the summer party scenes in serious style, with no shortage of flesh, accessories, or bright colours.
Without a question, music festivals throughout the world have evolved into gatherings where aspiring trendsetters and even celebrities may show their wild and creative sides when it comes to summer festival clothes. Festival fashion costume ideas have evolved from the stereotypical (imagine a sea of floral hats) to the adventurous and unforeseen. Rave culture has a long history of innovation, out-of-body experiences, inclusion, fashion, and, of course, music. And, like with any culture, it cannot be fully described without the assistance of others.
Outdoor music events have long been regarded as a rite of passage for teenagers. From the flower children of the 1960s who packed their belongings and travelled to San Francisco, to young teens from around the country who boarded Greyhound buses and travelled to the Catskills for one of the greatest music festivals in history, Woodstock, in the summer of 1969.
Today, music festivals are more common than ever, with renowned events such as Coachella in California, as well as dozens of festivals scheduled across the country this summer. From Lollapalooza (which just finished this past weekend in Chicago) to Burning Man in Nevada, Electric Zoo in New York City, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and Primavera Sound in Los Angeles, these are just a few of the festivals that take place.
