Gucci debuted its latest collection. Fans expected creative director Sabato De Sarno, who was recently hired by the firm, to feature his typical paired-back simplicity. Suddenly there was an unexpected explosion of colorful ballerina flats instead of the usual kitten heel pumps.

Some included straps and ribbons, while others had metal studs that harked back to the risqué rock and roll era of Tom Ford. De Sarno was meticulous in ensuring that his ballet flats were anything from basic. You can wear the Gucci ballet flats during the day this season and switch them up for a nighttime ensemble to go with your flowy dresses.

Among the endless array of women’s closets filled with opulent heels, the ballerina flat has numerous reasons to be declared the queen of shoes today: they’re comfortable, don’t hurt like stilettos, and can be worn all day. Ballet flats were once the performance pointe shoes for ballerinas.

The Maison Margiela tabis, Zendaya’s go-to ballet flats, have been sighted on the town lately. With their hoof-shaped construction, split-toed tabis have become cult favorites among the informed. Within the fervent community of fashion enthusiasts (and geeks), it is an unspoken fact that you aren’t a true fashion girlie unless you own a pair.

Ballet flats have been styled by Chanel, The Row, and Dior in the past. Chanel has even given them a black-toe treatment. Almost every high-end brand has joined the trend and added their own unique twist. The question that has to be resolved is whether Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci flats will be able to attract clients and leave their mark in a competitive industry where brands like as Miu Miu have made a remarkable.
