The first AI fashion week in the world will be held in New York, featuring the digital works of up-and-coming technologists. With complete control over production design, designers will deliver collections of 15 to 30 looks that were entirely created virtually utilising AI tools like Midjourney. Several collections will be displayed on screen during the event, which will take place at Soho’s Spring Studios on April 20 & 21 and is open to the public on Friday. The designs will not only be abstract concepts. In cooperation with the Revolve Group, the fashion/tech incubator will sell the winning entry’s actual physical clothing items.

According to a recent article in the New York Post, artificial intelligence will play a major role in the world of fashion, and fashion forwards are preparing for the first-ever AI runway show. The exhibition will feature the digital creations of up-and-coming IT designers. These entirely simulated clothing will be displayed on “models” strutting down a runway.

On April 20 and 21, AIFW will take place at Spring Studios in Soho, the same venue as New York Fashion Week. Screens at the location, which is available to the public on Friday, will display several collections. Beginning on Thursday, people can cast their votes online, and a winner will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes the renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath.

More than 400 people from all over the world, including Israel and several local designers in New York, have entered the competition, according to Cyril Foiret, the creator of AI creative agency Maison Meta, which is producing AIFW.

“We really think the AIFW platform will make big waves in the fashion industry and showcase what you can do and how creative you can be when it comes to AI and fashion,” Foiret stated. As with every new technology, “AI is already having an impact on the world and we will see a huge impact in the world,” Foiret added.

A diverse group of tech-savvy participants who are all knowledgeable about the most recent AI software have all entered AIFW. The wide age range of the applicants, ranging from “18 to 65 years old,” is the most unexpected statistic.

Fran, a 57-year-old civil rights attorney from New York, is taking part after educating herself how to utilise AI art generators in her spare time last summer when they first became accessible. She is now skilled with Night Cafe, Mid-journey, and Stable Diffusion.

Fran, who requested to go by a pseudonym and have her name concealed for professional reasons, said that AI has grown into a fun, “easy” hobby even if she has no plans to quit her career as an attorney.
By exhibiting what can be done with AI and fashion, AI fashion week aims to open up a new world of creation. The initiative is a ground-breaking event that will alter how we view fashion and technology. The fashion of the future is already here, and it appears that AI is paving the way.
