A Lebanese designer took inspiration for the star’s outfit’s fabric from the chainmail used in war armor.

In a recent Instagram photo, Shanaya Kapoor donned a dazzling blue metal mesh gown by Lebanese designer Jad Ghandour, which brought back memories of the party girl of the 2000s, Paris Hilton.

Along with her contemporaries Suhana Khan and Ananya Panday, Kapoor is a member of the new and emerging Bollywood celebrity clique. Even though Kapoor may still be pursuing her acting profession, she is undoubtedly adept at using her celebrity influence; it may even come easy to her. Kapoor’s ability to consistently stand out as one of the best-dressed people at major social gatherings in the city and abroad can be seen just by scrolling through Instagram. Kapoor’s attire at every occasion, from large debuts like the Jio World Plaza to an evening with David Beckham, is proof of Gen Z style.

It’s no big secret that the Y2K movement, which came back to life a few years ago, had a significant effect on Gen Z’s emerging sense of style; Kapoor’s stylistic decisions also reflect this. Although the diva wore a slinky backless dress with a thigh-high split, the outfit’s vivid blue color seemed to be a defining feature of 2000s design.

In keeping with the motif, Kapoor chose silver mini-hoops to complete her outfit and blow out her wavy hair. The origin of the cloth that was utilized to make Kapoor’s gown is rather intriguing. Gianni Versace invented Oroton, an incredibly light kind of chainmail, in 1982, and with it, the use of metal mesh as a fabric. Versace, whose daring designs surprised and angered audiences, utilized metal chainmail, which was formerly employed in ancient military armor, as inspiration to create an almost flowing drape that is now commonly known as metal mesh.

The dress designer for Kapoor Lebanese fashion designer Jan Ghandour is well-known for his glitzy evening clothing. He created the ensemble using cutout elements and metal mesh, which is evocative of the fashions that were prominent in the 2000s.

Kapoor’s attire was an obvious homage to Paris Hilton, the party girl of the 2000s. Hilton was the topic of conversation at the time, from her Barbie-girl phase to her smash program The Simple Life with BFF Nicole Kidman. She embodied the pinnacle of 2000s fashion with her abundance of pink ensembles, spaghetti strap tops, glittery sunglasses, Juicy Couture tracksuits, and crop tops in every shade of pink, frosty blue, and metallic.

Kapoor appears to have drawn inspiration for her style from Hilton’s style journal, stealing a few ideas from it. At this time, the all-over sequined dress is a Bollywood classic. Ananya Panday, Suhana Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor—Kapoor’s peers—have all been sighted in one form or another at different promotional events and award shows. Avoid going overboard with the accessories and keep your outfit a showpiece when styling a sequin dress.

Wear it with sheer crop jackets to get that ‘Paris Hilton leaving a club at four in the morning’ feel, or wear it for a night out and be the main character you’ve always wanted to be. Although not everyone can afford diamonds, sequins are always an excellent way to make your night more glamorous without breaking the bank, as Marilyn Monroe once quipped.
