The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to encourage the construction of textile and clothing companies in order to boost the state’s economy. The project is expected to generate US $1.17 billion in investments for the textile sector, which might profit from the plentiful supply of raw materials.

Andhra Pradesh is the sixth-largest producer of cotton in India, producing 15.41 lakh bales in 2022–2023, according to textiles and handlooms minister S. Savitha. This means that there are a lot of potential for value addition in the state. According to recent data, there are now 12,635 power loom units and around 106 spinning mills with approximately 3 lakh spindles in operation.

In order to meet industrial demands, Savitha stated that the government intends to open skilling facilities in Vizag and Rayadurg. However, despite the significant potential for value addition and widespread employment, advancements in fields like weaving, knitting, technological textiles, integrated units, and preparatory procedures have been sluggish.

Technical textiles and integrated units are two important segments of the textile value chain that the new policy framework seeks to strengthen. Five textile parks are privately held, while seven have been established by the government. One notable accomplishment in Andhra Pradesh and the larger textile industry is Brandix India Apparel City. Along with encouraging the establishment of new private industrial parks, the government is also committed to advancing the development of the Venkatagiri and Chirala textile parks.
