Techtextil 2026 is set to spotlight the growing role of advanced textiles in defence applications, as global demand for high-performance protective materials continues to rise. Scheduled from 21 to 24 April 2026 in Frankfurt am Main, the event will bring together more than 1,500 exhibitors, with over 10 percent focused on innovations in protective and defence textiles.

With EU defence spending reaching approximately €381 billion in 2025, the need for advanced textile solutions has intensified. The European Defence Fund’s 2026 Work Programme further reinforces this trend by identifying smart and multifunctional textiles as a key priority area. Techtextil translates these policy-driven demands into industrial applications, offering a comprehensive platform for innovation and collaboration.

At the core of defence textile development lies performance at the material level. Product developers and OEM manufacturers are increasingly seeking textiles that deliver ballistic resistance, flame protection, and enhanced durability, while maintaining comfort and ergonomic efficiency. Simultaneously, regulatory shifts, including PFAS restrictions, are accelerating the demand for sustainable alternatives in water-, oil-, and dirt-repellent finishes.

For procurement leaders and system providers, the focus is shifting towards industrial feasibility. The ability to source market-ready materials that meet compliance standards, ensure reproducibility, and support scalable production is becoming critical, particularly for applications such as ballistic systems and CBRN protective clothing.

More than 150 specialised exhibitors will form the technological backbone of the event, presenting innovations ranging from fibre development to finished protective materials. Companies like Lenzing Group are introducing inherently flame-retardant cellulose fibres, while Hyosung Advanced Materials will showcase high-performance synthetic yarns designed for demanding environments.

Complementing this, Texprocess 2026 will feature around 200 exhibitors, bridging the gap between raw materials and industrial processing. Together, the two events will host over 1,700 exhibitors, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for textile innovation.

The “Performance Apparel Textiles” zone in Hall 9.0 will highlight practical applications through live demonstrations, while the newly introduced “Textile Chemicals & Dyes” segment will connect chemical innovation directly with end-use textile performance. Key component manufacturers, including Güth & Wolf GmbH, JUMBO-Textil GmbH & Co. KG, and Otto Stockmayer & Sohn GmbH, will contribute specialised materials such as webbings and high-performance fabrics.

The event will also emphasise industrial scalability, highlighting the importance of translating material innovations into reliable, large-scale production systems. Industry experts stress that beyond innovation, factors such as testability, reproducibility, and seamless integration into manufacturing processes are now key benchmarks for success.

Supporting this transition, the Techtextil Forum will host knowledge-sharing sessions featuring global experts, including insights from NASA specialists. Topics such as textile intelligence and resilient materials will address the industry’s growing focus on smart functionalities and rapid commercialisation.

As defence requirements evolve, Techtextil 2026 positions itself as a critical platform for aligning innovation with real-world application, enabling stakeholders to navigate the future of high-performance and protective textiles.
