Tata Power-DDL Enhances Safety for Kanwar Yatra Pilgrims
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), the key electricity provider to over 9 million residents in North Delhi, is implementing robust safety measures to ensure a secure Kanwar Yatra 2025 across its operational zones. The annual pilgrimage attracts lakhs of devotees, significantly increasing the risk of accidental contact with electrical infrastructure, especially during the monsoon season.
To achieve zero-incident operations, zonal teams have been directed to map all Kanwar camps in their jurisdictions and enforce preventive safety protocols. These include leakage testing of electric poles, substations, and transformers, especially in areas with dense foot traffic or temporary camps. Teams are replacing or repairing cable joints and damaged jumpers, securing feeder and service pillar covers, checking earthing systems, ensuring streetlights function properly, installing visible danger signboards, and maintaining adequate stocks of PPEs and tools for field operations.
In addition, Tata Power-DDL has taken vital steps to ensure Kanwar camp electrical safety:
-
Camps are equipped with meters, and appropriate-rated MCB and ELCB units.
-
Only high-quality, insulated wires (as per connected load) are used, eliminating open joints.
-
Damaged open panels or hazardous installations are barricaded or fenced.
-
Special attention is given to low-lying, waterlogged areas due to monsoon conditions.
Public cooperation is essential in supporting these safety initiatives. Tata Power-DDL encourages all pilgrims to follow these key guidelines:
-
Keep a safe distance from electric poles, wires, and transformers.
-
Avoid touching electrical equipment with wet hands.
-
Do not stop or place Kanwars beneath high-voltage lines.
-
For vehicle-borne Kanwars, maintain at least a 1-meter gap below overhead wires.
-
Never use metal pipes or wet sticks to lift electrical wires.
-
In case of any electrical hazard, contact the nearest electricity office or dial 19124 immediately.
These combined efforts reinforce Tata Power-DDL’s continued commitment to public safety and support a smooth, accident-free Kanwar Yatra 2025.
